Guided Adaptive Cycling Starts Dec. 2018 – Spring 2019

Guided adaptive cycling is back in Tucson starting December 27th!

Spokes Fighting Strokes (SFS) adaptive cycling will be at Curtis Park every Wednesday at 11:00 am starting December 27th. Directions for Curtis Park: 2110 W. Curtis Rd, Tucson AZ, 85705, south of the major intersection of La Cholla and River Rd. 

Stroke survivors will be provided a state-of-the-art tricycle that will be adapted to your own needs.  The guided rides are along the paved, no-traffic river path.  Your cycling guides will include SFS founder and stroke survivor Dan Zimmerman and University of Arizona students.  

This fantastic offering is free of charge but requires a RSVP.  A week before you arrive, please email with your name, height, weight, and what side (arm or leg) your stroke might have affected.  All abilities and cycling experiences can be accommodated.  Please email Dan with any questions.

The mission of Patient Care Advocates is to care for all of their clients in a manner that promotes and enhances independence, quality of life, dignity and individuality. They provide home health, caregiver, and advocacy services.

Rehabilitation Services

The Aphasia Center of Tucson is a Program of Saguaro Center for Speech & Language, PLLC.  It offers comprehensive individual and group sessions. Contact the center for schedules and tuition rates.

Welcome Board Members

Jennifer BungerJennifer Bunger received her Bachelor’s degree in Asian Studies from the University of Oregon and a Bachelor’s degree in Speech and Hearing Sciences from Portland State University.  As a student clinician she facilitated aphasia groups at Portland State and the University of Arizona Speech and Language Clinics. She has served as the events coordinator for the UA Sarver Heart Center since 2010.  A favorite part of her job is making monthly reminder calls to members of the Green Valley Stroke Support Group, facilitated by Dr. Leslie Ritter. She has a passion to help facilitate a supportive community for stroke survivors and their caregivers.


Maya Luria currently serves as the director of senior services at Tucson Medical Center, overseeing initiatives, programs and services that enhance the quality of life for seniors throughout Southern Arizona. She is a native Tucsonan who appreciates the area’s rich and unique culture. As a founder of Bald Beauties Project and co-chair of the Second Chance Tucson coalition, Maya focuses her efforts and time supporting causes for those in need.

Leslie Ritter, PhD, Director of the Stroke Resource Center of Southern Arizona (SRCSA) will speak at the upcoming Life After Stroke & Brain Injury event on Saturday, May 20, 2017 at Tucson Medical Center Senior Services.  Dr. Ritter’s talk, Community Resources on Your Path to Recovery will higlight SRCSA and other community services.

Save the Date for Stroke Prevention Saturday

Reminder: Stroke Prevention Saturday is April 15th at Tucson Medical Center. Learn more

Are you at risk for a stroke? Join TMC and HealthSouth Rehabilitation Institute of Tucson for the annual free Stroke Prevention Saturday, April 15, 7 a.m. to noon at TMC Marshall Conference Center.

Free testing for:

  • Height, weight and body mass index
  • Blood pressure and oxygen saturation
  • Glucose and cholesterol measurements
  • Carotid Doppler ultrasound to look for blockages or narrowing
  • Electrocardiogram

A physician will review your results with you.

The screening is recommended for those 50 years and older. For best results, an eight-hour fast is recommended.

In addition, to learning about their risk for stroke, participants will also receive information on recognizing the signs of a stroke and how to control risk facts and the signs of a stroke.

No appointment necessary. Please allow 45 minutes for screening.

Light snacks will be available.
